FABRICS & WEIGHTS

Choose the Right Hoodie Fabric and GSM

Fabric should be selected according to climate, silhouette, finish, comfort, durability and target retail position—not by GSM alone.

Fabric Typical Weight Characteristics Recommended Use
Brushed Cotton Fleece 280–500 GSM Soft brushed interior, warm feel and structured appearance. Streetwear, winter hoodies and premium tracksuits.
French Terry 260–420 GSM Smooth outer face with looped interior; less insulating than brushed fleece. Midweight hoodies, transitional seasons and premium casualwear.
Cotton-Polyester Fleece 280–450 GSM Combines cotton comfort with improved stability and reduced wrinkling. Everyday hoodies, teamwear and repeat-use garments.
Loopback Jersey 240–350 GSM Flexible, breathable and lighter than dense heavyweight fleece. Lightweight hoodies and warmer climates.
Interlock 250–380 GSM Smooth, stable double-knit construction with a clean surface. Minimal, technical and premium fitted hoodies.
Polyester Performance Fabric 180–300 GSM Lightweight, quick-drying and suitable for sublimation. Sports, training and all-over printed hoodies.
Waffle or Thermal Knit 280–420 GSM Textured surface with additional visual depth and insulation. Fashion hoodies, panels and seasonal collections.
Important:

GSM indicates fabric weight per square metre; it does not independently determine quality. Yarn, fibre composition, knitting density, finishing, shrinkage and colourfastness also affect the finished garment. Final specifications should be confirmed through sampling.

PRINTING & DECORATION

Custom Hoodie Branding Methods

The appropriate method depends on the artwork, fabric, colours, placement, finish and order quantity.

01

Screen Printing

Suitable for bold artwork and repeat production. Options may include standard, water-based, discharge, high-density and specialty inks.

02

Puff Printing

Heat-activated ink expands to create a raised, three-dimensional surface.

03

DTF Printing

Suitable for detailed, multicolour artwork and smaller design runs on compatible fabrics.

04

DTG Printing

Direct-to-garment printing for detailed artwork on suitable cotton-rich garments.

05

Flat Embroidery

Durable thread embroidery for chest, sleeve, hood and other selected placements.

06

3D Puff Embroidery

Foam-supported raised embroidery, best suited to artwork with sufficient line thickness and spacing.

07

Chenille & Appliqué

Layered fabric and textured embroidery for collegiate, varsity and premium streetwear designs.

08

Heat Transfer

Reflective, silicone, flock, vinyl and specialty transfers subject to fabric compatibility.

09

Sublimation

Suitable for polyester-based performance hoodies and edge-to-edge printed designs.

10

Patches

Woven, embroidered, leather, chenille, rubber and PVC patches with different attachment methods.

11

Rhinestones & Studs

Decorative stones, studs and metal details for fashion and statement hoodie designs.

12

Distressing

Raw edges, abrasion, holes, exposed seams and other controlled distressed effects.

WASHING & FINISHING

Create a Distinctive Colour and Hand Feel

Washing can soften the garment, reduce shrinkage and create vintage colour variation. Results depend on fibre content, fabric construction, dye, wash recipe and production batch.

  • Garment wash
  • Enzyme wash
  • Silicone or softener finish
  • Vintage fade
  • Acid or mineral-inspired wash
  • Pigment-dyed appearance
  • Distressed and worn effects
  • Pre-shrink finishing where applicable
Washed garments can show controlled variation between pieces. An approved sample establishes the target appearance, but washed effects should not be treated like a perfectly flat digital colour.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Custom Hoodie Manufacturing FAQs

What is your MOQ for custom hoodies?

The standard starting MOQ is 50 pieces per design. The possible size and colour breakdown depends on fabric availability, dyeing, decoration and trims.

Can I order a hoodie sample first?

Yes. A paid sample is recommended before bulk manufacturing so you can evaluate the fit, fabric, colour, construction and branding.

What GSM is best for a heavyweight hoodie?

Many heavyweight hoodies use fabric around 400–500 GSM, but GSM alone does not determine quality. Fibre, yarn, knitting, brushing and finishing must also be considered.

Can you manufacture oversized hoodies?

Yes. Chest width, body length, shoulder drop, sleeve volume, hood size, ribbing and pocket proportions can all be customised.

Can you match a Pantone colour?

Pantone references can be used as colour targets. Final appearance may vary by fabric, dye method, lighting and finishing, so physical approval is recommended.

Can you add custom labels and packaging?

Yes. Options include main labels, care labels, size labels, neck prints, hang tags, branded bags, mailers, boxes, stickers and cards.

Can you copy a reference hoodie exactly?

A reference garment can help establish construction and fit, but protected logos, artwork and branded components should not be copied without permission. Materials and washes may also require development to achieve a close result.

Do you ship custom hoodies internationally?

Yes. Shipping options are quoted according to the destination, quantity, carton dimensions, weight and required delivery method.
